Was surprised how little time he gave Downes

Re: Todays game against Lens
I think he actually had the best pass % in all 4 leagues. I suppose what I'm saying is if Coventry is now progressing, and we sign another CM, did we need him, but yep time will tell. I hope Coventry stays, anyhow.

Re: Todays game against Lens
When I saw Downes he sat just in front of the back four, kept possession well, barely a stray pass. Had the best pass percentage in the championship last season.

5 subs this, if Moyes is inclined of course.. Maybe handy when closing out games a three of him, Rice and Soucek would be quite good if we're being over run in the later stages of games as we often are.

But we shall see, you may be right about him hardly having a kick.

Re: Todays game against Lens
Not seen either, just read that Coventry has looked decent, so asked the question, and as I say we may well buy another CM. We bought Downes just after Warburton come in, could be a coincidence, but fancy it was him that reco'd him.

Not saying Downes was a mistake, he may turn out good, but he's not a kid in football terms and looks to me just a fairly expensive back up at this point. All IMO, if that's okay.

Crossed - Once in the knockout stages we need to go strong, as we did last season.

Re: Todays game against Lens
Downes looks a better player than Coventry to me, well on the limited amount I've seen them both.

Besides Moyes bought him and keeps shipping Coventry out so surely puts Downes ahead of him?

Ain’t like we have a European campaign or anything.

Re: Todays game against Lens
Point is we had a back up to Rice and Soucek in Coventry, so not sure we needed to spend 12 mil on another back up. If we buy another CM, as we are apparently looking to do, Downes will hardly have a kick all season.

The ‘Taff’ as in the WHU fan from Essex?

Re: Todays game against Lens
I read that Coventry has been looking decent, which IMO begs the question did we need to spend 12 large on the Taff?

Coufal implies (on the Official Site) that they did more intensive training than they would before a Premier match.

To get general fitness up, but resulting in them being a bit "leggy" for the Lens game.

Swindon, we could have Mbappe up front but we would still struggle as we are devoid of creativity

We lack pace, we still have massive concern at LB, OH and we are struggling to have fit centre halves

Apart from that all looks good matey !

Re: Todays game against Lens
I thought it was a nice cameo from Coventry. Needs to do more of those forward passes like to Bowen in the last minute.

Also thought Vlasic was better than Benrama.
I can't see Benny improving. He's just so infuriating. Second too long on the ball, wrong descions.

Vlasic seems like he wants to succeed here. Good attitude.
Haven't given up on him yet. He could improve, but I see the same old Benrama all the time.

Good grief the knicker wetting on this thread is hilarious!

Lens are a decent team. Came 7th in the French League last season and beat Inter Milan in a friendly last week.

Anyone would think we had just drawn against Leyton Orient!

With Antonio & Scamacca coming into the fold I’m sure we will look a bit more lively up front so it’s hardly time to panic.

Re: Todays game against Lens
Well, we stop the run Antonio into the ground tactic and have the new bloke with him when he's fit. Patience.

Athletico, Antonio has looked the worst version of himself and the new fella isn’t fit?

Lens beat Inter Milan last week.

Bowen scores in the last minute and it's happy days.
Get Antonio and Scamacca on the pitch and reserve judgement until then.

Ogbonna might have scored an unfortunate own goal against D&R yesterday but he didn't seem too off the pace and injured yesterday, which is good.

It was yet another game where we played wing backs who no one to play it in to…. but it’s a preseason friendly so meh…..

Re: Todays game against Lens
Very poor all round. The defence was dire.Shape laughable. Our two best players in pre season given no time. Alese best defender in pre season allowed to go. No youth in final game and Declan at center back where he can't dictate the game. Nil points after 6 games. Same old Moyes and he' atill trying to shoe in Masuaku, the worst player in the PL, who?
